Sidereal Tracking of Moving Targets

As discussed in the previous section, the RCT has excellent provisions to observe moving objects at the rate of apparent motion of the object and will make sure that it has the most accurate information each night before observing begins. However if you want to observe your object with sidereal tracking then you must:

  1. Generate the ephemeris using the JPL or MPC database (it doesn't matter which). You will need to know Kitt Peak's longitude, latitude and altitude which are available from main webpage

    http://www.noao.edu/kpno/

Otherwise, if you're using MPC's ephemeris generator then all you need is the observatory code which is 695.

  2. Find the position of the object at the time you wish to observe it.
  3. Once you have selected your project and Create Targets, follow the steps for observing a stationary target giving the RA and Dec from the ephemeris data.

Later when you are assigning observations to each target you will need to specify the UT start time ****.
