Mirror Cover

Table 3.22: Mirror Cover Specifications
Drawing: RCT001/8
EOS Drawing: SCH-4033-1
Manual: MM 18-13
Actuators: Linak LA30.1 -300-24-01 (old style)
Motor: actuators (quantity four)
Motor Encoder: none
Overall Encoder: none
Limits: in and out
Limits: FS+ and FS- inside the limit switches
Drive Amplifier: none

The actuators move from one limit to the other. There are four leaves that are wired as two orthogonal pairs. These must be activated in the correct order to cover the mirror properly. It seems that the ordering is done by relays in the mirror cover control box. The direction to all motors are tied together.

It takes about 37 seconds to open or close the mirror covers. Ideally they telescope should be pointed near the zenith.

Looking at the actuators it looks like the following:

Length: 300 mm
Amps: 6.4 A max
Speed: 16mm (no load) 9 mm/s full
Max Load: 3000 N

Note:The actuator cannot be driven to the limits with power on unless current protected. The manual states operating temperatures between 5 and 40C. There is also a statement that the actuator will free wheel out with a pull of 300 N.

Large Leaf: 2,4
Small Leaf: 1,3
Closing: small leaf then large leaf
Opening: large leaf then small leaf
